Mi Song Kim
Untitled, 2013
Etching on Paper
Framed size 600 x 900 mm
$700This work was born out of an interest in inserting art into a non-conventional environment with a varied audience. It is non-confrontational in nature as it fits easily within the context of its intended destination, however a further return is generated through prolonged observation. In 2013, I drove around looking for fish and chips takeaway stores on the North Shore, where I lived. I asked if they would be happy for me to put my work up within their store – in a mutual exchange of display space and free art. Reactions I encountered ranged from confusion, disinterest and rejection, to amusement and enthusiasm, which resulted in successful installations. These exchanges were documented in a series of photographs, which can be made available to the buyer upon request. Mi Song recently graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts with a BFA(Hons).
