Laser hair removal

Laser epilation is the most effective treatment for the removal of unwanted facial and body hair. We use an Alexandrite excel from Cutera, the pioneers and leaders in aesthetic laser technology, which offers the most advanced premium hair removal solution for all skin types, together with its advanced cooling system, which constantly cools the skin during treatment, providing patients with further protection and comfort. The laser targets melanin, which is found in your hair. Heat from the laser is absorbed by the melanin, resulting in the follicle being destroyed.

Laser hair removal is best suited to those with fairer skin and darker hair. It is not effective on grey or blonde hair. However, these hairs can be removed successfully and safely with electrolysis. Our therapist is trained in both laser hair removal and electrolysis. To discuss the method most suitable for you, please contact us for a free consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Will I need a consultation and test dose?
Yes, we like to meet you before any treatments are performed. At the consult we can fully explain what you can expect during and after your treatment as well as ensuring that laser hair removal is right for you. We will answer any concerns you may have. The consult also gives us the opportunity to perform a test dose to the areas to be treated, giving you the chance to experience what it feels like, but more importantly giving us the chance to access your skin and hair response before a full treatment is provided.

How many treatments will I need?
How many treatments required depends on the individual, the area to be treated and the type of hair. Our therapist will be able to give you a better idea at the consultation.

Is the treatment painful?
Due to the cooling device on the excel, discomfort is kept to a minimum, however most patients report a sensation of a light pin‐prick.

Are there any possible side effects?
After treatment there may be some temporary erythema (redness) and perifollicular oedema (swelling). Both reactions settle down for most patients within a couple of hours, but can last up to 24 hours in some patients. Direct sunlight to the area should also be avoided for two weeks after treatment.

Is laser hair removal more effective than IPL?
Laser energy is far more focused than IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), resulting in a more effective treatment. Treatments performed using IPL use a broad spectrum light, which is spread over a wider area, resulting in shallow heating to the epidermis, often missing the target hair follicle base, which is situated deep in the dermis. In comparison, the Alexandrite laser’s energy is more concentrated, uniformed and accurate, using just one wavelength to target hair follicles at their base.
